About Me

Sasha Hill is a Brooklyn based artist and educator working primarily in ceramics. A lifelong doodler and maker of things, she came to ceramics as a coordinator of the student-run Clay Collective at Barnard College.
She currently works as a ceramics instructor for children and adults at Tribeca Clayworks and Gasworks NYC, and as studio assistant to production potter Rachael Scharf.
In 2024, Sasha received the Charlene Victor and Ella J. Weiss Cultural Entrepreneur Fund grant from Brooklyn Arts Council to participate in Cohorts.Art, where she received the mentorship of Lisa Orr and Sam Harvey over the course of two years.
Her work has been recently exhibited in the Cohorts Exhibit at Good Earth Pottery, The Mudflat Cup Show at Mudflat Studios, Verdant Earth at Gallery 198, Creature Comforts at Nails Salon, and the GO-BKLYN Ceramic Sale and Integrated Processes Ceramic Sale as part of the Brooklyn Ceramic Arts Tour.
Artist Statement
I pursue harmony between form and surface in functional ceramics, in particular transferring elements of drawing and painting onto the rounded surfaces of pots. My objects serve a purpose but are also small works of art, providing treats for the user’s senses of sight and touch. I strive to evoke the sense of place and atmosphere that can be achieved in a landscape painting or sketch, while using all the potential of ceramic materials to maximize the impact of colors and textures.
I am interested in the limitless potential of decoration not only for its ability to beautify a pot, but also because of how powerfully imagery can convey narratives and emotion. As decorative pots have throughout centuries of human history, I hope my work can reflect the world I live in – particularly the impact of human-built structures on the natural world.
